Wow! Earlier today we pressed the sent button for the 33rd time.

It’s been roughly six months since we last shared some numbers (that black rectangle shows what we were able to share back then).

Here’s the latest:

As you can see from the chart above, the number of items included in each issue of EngagePhase Weekly has increased significantly since early May, now fast approaching 100.

On the one hand, this is due to the three (mostly) non-news categories included in each issue:

  • Professional Development (includes both in-person and online opportunities)
  • Job Openings
  • Event Calendar (conferences)

On the other hand, our “core segment” has been growing as well, lately including more than ten news items on average each week. These usually fall into several of the following areas:

  • Industry News
  • People on the Move
  • Recap (i.e., follow-up coverage from conferences and other major events)
  • Competitions & Awards
  • Tools & Resources
  • Research
  • Books
  • Digital Engagement
  • Around the Globe
  • Thought Leadership
  • Making the Case
  • Analysis & Opinion

An increasing number of content is being contributed by our readers.

What’s more, our news aggregator – the system we’ve been setting up quietly in the background to allow us to monitor and process a large number of relevant international news sources – has improved dramatically over the past few months. We now track more than 50 of the leading blogs related to community engagement and public participation, follow more than 200 social media accounts, and listen in on the conversation stream around more than a dozen Twitter hashtags, including a few non-English ones.

We predicted in May that this “increasingly complete tracking effort will allow EngagePhase Weekly to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date view of the emerging global community engagement and public participation industry.” While this effort is still far from complete, the results so far are very encouraging. More often than not, we surface more material on a weekly basis than we currently have the bandwidth to process.

Last month, we crossed the 100-subscriber mark (right on schedule and in time to help us celebrate the launch of our public beta phase). This should soon become another interesting source of data (analyzing what subscribers are actually responding to versus making educated guesses or taking the occasional survey).
